چکیده

Active Queue Management (AQM) is the process of signaling Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) sources from core routers with the objective of managing queue utilization and delay. AQM methods can be classified into two main classes, namely, non-control theoretic-Random Early Detection(RED) and its variants and control theoretic-Proportional (P), Proportional Integral (PI) controllers. Shortcomings from RED motivated alternative AQM schemes which amount to classical P and PI control. But the robustness of these algorithms is rarely addressed in wired congestion control studies. In wireless networks, where the available link bandwidth is time varying, it is important to study the robustness of the congestion control algorithms against the capacity disturbance. Control theoretic approach is developed for the design of AQM Controller using Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) theory and H∞ control technique. The aim of the control law is to minimize the perturbations in queue (from the set value) at the congested node buffer by choosing minimum cost input i.e. probability of drop. Result showing impact of probability of drop on packet drop and capacity utilization is given.

Robust Router Congestion Control Using Acceptance and Departure Rate Measures

In packet switched networks, routers need to implement controls to overcome the problems of reduced performance in the event of congestion. In this work, with a view towards robust implementation, we examine a new active queue management scheme, Acceptance and Departure Rate (ADR) that uses a combination of acceptance rate and departure rate measures to control link congestion. Unlike many exis...

On the H∞ Controller Design for Congestion Control in Communication Networks with a Capacity Predictor

In this paper we investigate the use of the outgoing link capacity information in the H∞ controller design for rate based flow control in a communication network for the case of a single bottleneck node and a single source. In the previous works in this line of research it was assumed that the controller implemented at the bottleneck node has access to queue length information, and robust contr...

A Robust Active Queue Management Algorithm for Wireless Network

Active Queue Management (AQM) has been extensively studied in the context of wired Internet. In this paper, we propose an AQM algorithm for a bottleneck node with wireless link. Specifically, we propose a robust controller design method that maintains the queue length close to an operating point. We treat capacity variation as an external disturbance and design the controller using H∞ control t...

Synthesis of Robust Active Queue Management controllers in TCP Networks

This paper is concerned with the derivation of improved AQM control schemes to cope with unwanted variations of characteristic parameters such as the the average round-trip time, the load and the link capacity. To achieve this aim, we use novel robust control strategies for time-delay systems, which are based on the use of robust reduction methods and H∞ strategies resulting in memory and memor...

Robust Stochastic Flow Management for TCP/AQM System

Abstract: This paper presents a delay-dependent robust stochastic active queue management (AQM) scheme that can be implemented in the routers for stabilizing queues in transmission control protocol (TCP) communication networks. The linearized TCP/AQM system is modelled as a uncertain time-delay system with stochastic perturbations and time-varying network parameters. In this paper, a new flow m...
